Volunteer at Serenity Café!

Volunteering Opportunities

Volunteering with Serenity Café is open to:

  • People in recovery of all ages and all recovery journeys
  • People working towards, or maintaining abstinence, who feel stable and ready to learn, develop and commit to volunteering.

If you are not sure how ready you are, why not join in with some of our community activities first to see what suits you?

How to get started

Attend a volunteer induction session – a quick 2 hour session to introduce you to Serenity Café.

All roles will provide great experience for anyone looking to work towards paid employment in the food/catering industry in the future.

We aim to offer training for each role, and you may wish to try one role or all of the roles.

We provide references for volunteers who want to use their experience to work towards further education and training.

Or consider the skills and experience you might want to share with others

There is no application form - potential volunteers come to the weekly volunteer induction sessions and will be introduced to the current volunteer roles and will create a volunteer plan. We try to involve people in their chosen role with an existing volunteer buddy for 'shadow shifts' within a week.

Volunteer shifts are around three hours each between 9-5 (evenings and weekends opening up soon) and volunteers can work one or several shifts per week to suit their needs.

We prefer at least 3 months' commitment. Training and benefits of volunteering need time.

We operate a 'give and get back approach to volunteering by which we aim to reward volunteers for their time.

Through the scheme, volunteers collect points which can be used to buy food or drink in the café, as entry for café club nights or can be saved to go on volunteer-only trips which are planned throughout the year.

If you think you could give our volunteers something in return for the time they put into running the café and community activities, let us know!  It could be DIY, massage, sewing and mending, IT help, cooking.... Whatever skills and experience you have will be welcome.
